Moynat was founded in 1849, five years before Louis Vuitton, it was one of the very first luxury brands and the first to be headed by a woman. Pauline Moynat grew her travel-bag business with the help of the Coulembier manufacturing family, who made trunks, and the label soon became synonymous with innovative design and chic, beautifully made bags.
When Bernard Arnault took over the house in 2010, he lovingly invested in restoring the archive and building a flagship store on Blvd Faubourg St. Honore in Paris, which showcases the clean, modern lines of more recent designs alongside the heritage pieces.
The Moynat Rejane is the creation of Moynat’s creative director, Ramesh Nair, he worked on the Hermès womenswear line alongside Martin Margiela and Jean Paul Gaultier before joining Moynat.
Each Moynat Rajane bag is made from start to finish by a single artisan and the stitching, assembling and finishing steps alone take 16 hours, not to mention all the time spent sourcing the leather, preparing the materials and cutting.
The most common material is Taurillon leather (it is a pebbled calfskin leather).
The Moynat Rejane features a front patented lock, which is iconic Moynat detail, a top handle and an adjustable detachable strap. The interior features an interior zip pocket with a wide base. The classic Rejane bag is available in petite and regular sizes.
